So Here For It - Episode 7
===
Amy Mingin: [00:00:00] Hello and welcome to the So Here For It podcast, episode 7. I am your host Amy Mingin. I'm so excited to get chatting with you today about all things consistency. Because, let's face it, a lot of people give up before they get started because they say that they're not going to be consistent or they've given up on things because they're not consistent and I want to speak specifically to people who think that they have to be consistent in order to have success in any of the goals that they're going for.
Now, specifically, I'm going to be speaking about women and women's cycles and we're going to bust some myths around consistency, what is different because you are a woman, and it's going to give you a new perspective and new expectation of yourself. You'll realise that the traditional version of consistency is actually created for men. And I'm going to show you how inside [00:01:00] this episode. It is so juicy. I cannot wait to get started with you. So let's dive straight in.
Now, first and foremost, what is your version of consistency? Because it's like to me it seems a bit monotonous. It's like a locomotive. It's like it's just getting on one track, on one version of, you know, one tune, one song, like go.
And it's just like, consistency. What is consistency to you? People think that it's like, oh, posting on social media every day or showing up to training every day or drinking so much water every day. And yeah, that can definitely be part of it. But really, consistency is about having the same thing. and being consistent with it.
But are you consistent in all parts of your life? I don't think so. And here's the reason why. You think about what I said back in previous episodes. I'm pretty sure it [00:02:00] was in episode 2, where I'm talking about exercise and talking about how you're different on a daily basis, how you're different on a weekly basis, and then how you're different in a monthly basis.
So let's now think about it in relation to, your menstrual cycle. How consistent is your menstrual cycle? For some women, their cycle isn't regular, so they don't actually have consistency there. But it's a given, it's like, you go to a doctor and they'll be like, you ovulate on day 14.
No, about 7 percent of women ovulate on day 14, actually. Like they give you a due date when you're pregnant. Less than 10 percent of babies are born on their due date. That's because less than 10 percent of women have the exact same cycle. The length of your gestation is due to the length of your period and it goes through a cycle, right?
So we're going through cycles all the time. We're going through [00:03:00] inconsistency all the time, but it's about you finding what is consistent and what is inconsistent and re establishing what you believe is consistent for you.
So for example, if you consistently train on a Tuesday and a Thursday with resistance training. That's your consistency. It doesn't mean that you have to, that you're not consistent if you're not doing it on other days, you're being consistent for you. Just like if you have a 30 day cycle for your period one month, and then the next month that comes on day 26. That's inconsistent for you. But what if it goes day 30 and then day 26 and then day 30 and then day 26? All of a sudden we're seeing a pattern, all of a sudden it's consistent.
Let's look at it in a different way. If we're looking at the patterns of behaviour throughout the month, if you're thinking about, [00:04:00] okay, here you are in that first part of your cycle. You go through your bleed, you come out, you're actually on fire, like you can do so much stuff, you're totally in action stations, you're feeling more motivated, you're feeling more social, the amount of work that you can get done in that week is humongous.
It would be totally unfair for you to compare that week of the month compared to the week of the month that's leading up to your period. For real, I think that it's completely unfair that you think that you can create just as much and do so many social activities when naturally you're in a downward phase.
Naturally, you're in an inward phase in that third week of your month, considering if you have a four week cycle or thereabouts. I want you to start thinking about what is consistently happening for you and switch around, like where are you actually? Switch [00:05:00] it around if you are planning too much at the end of the month but that's when you get your period, can you switch it for just a week later?
Can you change it so that you have a little more space in your calendar so you can actually be yourself and do what you want to do and feel so much better? Because there are a lot of women out there who are just setting up unrealistic expectations and then that inner critic is coming through and then it actually derails you.
So this is like, this whole chat about consistency has been on my mind and I've actually talked to my coach about it. Because I do some things that I would consider super successfully, super consistently in some areas of my life. But then I was comparing other things in my life with those areas. But I wasn't comparing apples with apples here.
Like, my menstrual cycle is the thing that intertwines throughout every single thing and [00:06:00] influences every single thing that I'm doing, right? So it's only fair that I then utilize what's going on with that in other areas of my life, not just in relation to my business, not just in relation to my health, not just in relation to my social life and relationships, but in relation to my creation reactivity. In relation to what I delve into emotionally, in relation to my manifestations, in relation to how I'm thinking and feeling and what I'm actually doing in those different weeks. There's so much more we can talk into in each of these phases and I think that if we're comparing this fast phase with a slow phase and telling ourselves that we're inconsistent, then we are decreasing our ability to fully be present inside those parts.
And I hope this really lands for you because it really landed for me when the information came through for me. I'm just like, [00:07:00] Oh my gosh, I've been totally unfair to myself to expect that much work to be created in that week of the month when ordinarily I would have some downtime in that week.
Ordinarily, I would be journaling, not going out running. Or ordinarily, I would be doing some slow move style yin yoga, not lifting the heavy weights. I would be doing more of this audit and organization in my business, rather than thinking that I would have to be all forward facing and doing lots of masterclasses and putting things out there.
Like there is so much that we can bring into this aspect of consistency that helps us to delve more into who we really are. It helps us to become more aware of our patterns of behavior. Now, once we're aware of that, then if we choose to change it, then we actually can.
And that's what this podcast is about. Like, that's what I'm here [00:08:00] for, right? I'm so here for it. I'm so here for actual behavior change, for you being able to become so much more empowered, so you can make the decisions for yourself. So of course, anything that I say during the stage of this podcast and other podcasts, like I want you to think, Oh wow, that's just opened my mind to something else.
And then allow that to actually lead to the next thing. Like it doesn't mean that you have to change your mind about it. It doesn't mean they have to agree with me. What it means is you now have access to something new. You now have opened your mind to a new possibility, which is always towards something new.
Now, why do we always want something new? We want something new because our unconscious mind is just going to try and keep us safe. So if you're in your comfort zone all the time, you just know the current life that you're in, you're on that one monotone track, it gets bloody boring. Now the problem with us getting bored is then, this [00:09:00] is the interesting part, I want to see if this shows up for you. Then, if you're in this like, boring aspect of life, or very predictable, or very consistent, or very unaware, you just know what you know, and you eat what you eat, and you hang out with the people who are all very predictable, and you watch your shows, and you listen to your things, and you just keep going and doing the same things with the same people every single day, thinking the same thoughts, feeling the same way, complaining about the same fucking things.
Guess what's going to happen? You are going to create chaos in your life. The chaos ensues so that you start to grow. It is inevitable. It is inevitable that if you're having a boring life, that your unconscious mind, the universe, they work together. They're going to send you a curve ball to push you outside of your comfort zone.
Now, wouldn't you rather have access to choosing what you want [00:10:00] to be pushed out of your comfort zone to an extent. You know what? I said this to my friend yesterday, life be lifin What I mean by that is like, stuff happens in life. You wouldn't meet one person who hasn't had something that's gone wrong in 2024.
Like it's been a pretty hectic year, I have to say. If you don't choose what chaos is happening in your life, what thing you're going to push yourself outside your comfort zone, you might, like, here's some, here's some different things that I'm thinking of right now. If you run a business, when was the last time you launched something?
When was the last time you went to a networking event? When was the last time you hired a mentor? When was the last time that you went into the course that you were the little fish in the big pond? When was the time you sat at a new table, where you talked to someone who you felt uncomfortable talking to?
There are so many opportunities available to you, instead of you [00:11:00] getting in your fluffy slippers and sitting on the couch, watching Netflix, watching Bridgerton, I've been watching Bridgerton. Oh my gosh, love it. And also, there's a time and place for it. Make sure you're doing this stuff in the time when you know you are going to thrive in it.
Like I said before, if you start booking things in, you're like, yeah, I'm feeling great. Sometimes you're going to book things in, in that week where you're feeling great for two weeks later, when you're not going to feel great. So can you learn by this and actually push yourself outside your comfort zone when it's going to be around ovulation, that's your best time to do it. That's when you're going to feel your best. You're going to look your best. You're going to have more glow in your skin. That's when your estrogen is peaking. That is when you are most magnetic. That is when to do it. Do the new thing at ovulation. Because guess what? If you're not creating babies, you might as well be creating your life. [00:12:00] And even if you are creating babies, create your life.
This is so, so important for you to not only be up and coming, but for you to continuously be on the edge. And I don't mean this in like a, I'm on the edge of my seat. Oh, I fly by the seat of my pants and I always feel stressed kind of way. I mean this in a, Oh, this feels uncomfortable. I feel like I need to take a deep breath here. It's a very small, small difference between feeling fearful and feeling excited. And the difference is doing this, taking a breath, literally fear is excitement without breath. Use that. Because that's going to help you step outside of your comfort zone.
Once you're stepping outside your comfort zone consistently, and it might just happen once a month, but what you will notice is it's going to open up new opportunities, you're going to have things come [00:13:00] into your world that you would have never even considered if you were still sitting at home in your fluffy slippers.
And I get it. Maybe you're one of those people where you're like, Oh man, she's telling me to go do extrovert things and I'm actually an introvert. Well, guess what? It's called behavioral flexibility. The more often that you can be flexible with your behavior, regardless of whether you're introverted, extroverted, manifesting generator or projector, whatever your energy type is, the more often you can step outside of your comfort zone, the more behaviorally flexible you will become.
And it doesn't mean, like if you go to a networking event for example, this doesn't mean that you have to make friends with every single person there. You can just choose one person and have a deep conversation. If that's what you're into, go do that. Set a new standard for yourself. If you're going to be going into a new [00:14:00] workplace because you've gone for a new job, if you're going to ask for a pay rise, please do it in that week where you're ovulating. Do it in that week where you feel higher energy, where everything's going your way. And you'll actually open up so many more opportunities for yourself.
So, I hope that this has really changed. your perspective on consistency, because I know it has for me. I would love for you to take some actions. Like this is a very actionable, tangible episode.
It's all well and good to get your perspective shift in your head, but what you do with your physical body now and in the future is what is most important. So I want you to bring to mind the thing that you're, that you know you need to do, that you want to do, but you just haven't done it. The thing that comes to mind first is [00:15:00] the thing.
Write that down. You could write it on a post it note and stick it on your desk. You could have it as a screensaver on your phone. You could write it on lipstick on your mirror. Whatever the thing is, I want it to be front and center for you this week. And I want you to do something about that. I want you to take an action towards it.
So if your goal is to start releasing weight, that my friends, that doesn't need to wait till Monday. That doesn't need to wait until you're totally ready because let me tell you this, no one's totally ready for anything. Whenever someone's like, so are you ready? I'm just like, I suppose, like I chose to do the thing, so yeah, I'm here.
Use where you're at right now to your advantage. You will never be this age ever again. Your body will never look the way that it has right now, ever again. [00:16:00] If you have a business, your business will never be in this place ever again. If you have family, they'll never be this age and wanting this much connection with you ever again.
I want you to start making the most of your life. So whatever you've been putting off, use this as your consistency piece. If it means every day doing a different, like doing the one task, that's fine. If it means bringing a task in once a week, that's fine. But make sure whatever the task is that comes to mind is the thing that you're going to consistently do now.
And that is your actionable. Now when you do it, here's the next step. I want you to tag me on Instagram stories when you are doing it. Let people know of this podcast because it is so important that this information gets out there to far more women. Oh my goodness. This sort of stuff is life changing. So if you can share it with your [00:17:00] people, I'll be so grateful. If more people get this consistency piece in their ears today, oh my gosh, my heart is absolutely so happy about that. So thanks for listening and I will talk to you in the next episode.
