So Here For It - Episode 8
===
Amy Mingin: [00:00:00] Hello, and welcome to episode eight of the So Here For It podcast. I am your host, Amy Mingin, and I have quite possibly the best episode ever coming your way. We are talking all things cellulite today and let's face it. Sometimes people have this very early in life and sometimes it doesn't come along too much later in life, but about 90 percent of women have cellulite.
So this is a very universal thing that I'm going to speak to today. I want to pre frame it with, there's no shame involved with it. There's no right or wrong. This is about letting you know things that you can do, if you wish to do something about it. And if you just want to find out information, that's perfect too.
Sometimes people take things a little bit too personally or sometimes people just, you know, get offended by things. So I just wanted to say that first and foremost, there's [00:01:00] no shame involved with this. And where I'm coming from with this is I've shared a lot of stuff on social media about cellulite. It's gone viral, absolutely viral. And most people are actually really good about it. And there are some people who get offended by what I say. So anyways, I was just pre pre framing that so that you can actually make informed decisions for yourself about your own cellulite, because let's face it, there is something very nice about a nice smooth bum and nice smooth legs, right?
I'm saying, I'm so here for that. So if you're here for it, awesome. Let's get started. Let's jump into the cellulite conversation and let's get started with some science first, because you guys know, I am a bit of a science nerd. I am a health scientist. So it makes sense that I speak about science.
And what I want to say here is this, we have some really obvious reasons why cellulite happens, and it can happen from a young age. It can happen when we're older. [00:02:00] Almost always it's happening because there is a mishap between our connective tissue and our soft tissue. Now our connective tissue, if you right now feel down the sides of your legs, so between your knee and your outer hip, so the outside of your thigh, there is a band called the iliotibial band.
This is the most obvious spot where most people will be able to feel right this minute. Now that band is what we consider connective tissue. It's not a muscle. It's not a tendon. It's like a sheath. And if you consider that that is It's something that gets very, very tight whenever we're walking, whenever we're running, whenever we're doing something that's quite active, this ITB or iliotibial band gets really tight.
Now if that gets tight, the body, being a whole functioning system, something else is going to take up space or make more [00:03:00] resistance or guard or cause your gait to be slightly different. Your gait is like what you look like, your pattern of what your walk is like, that's a gait, G A I T, not G A T E, G A I T, your gait may change the tighter your connective tissue gets.
Now, your connective tissue actually holds your muscles in place. It holds your organs in place. There's literally this layer of connective tissue called fascia throughout our entire body. Now, the fascia is a lot like the mycelial network. And if you're not sure what the mycelial network is, it's, I'm going to like jump across to nature for a minute. If you've ever been digging in a garden. And you dig through the dirt. There's like this layer that seems almost like a spider web. It's white and it's a layer and you can dig through it. It's actually fungus and that's a mycelial network. That's how every single plant, tree, fungi, [00:04:00] everything connects in nature through the mycelial network.
Well, this similar thing happens in our body. We have this thing called fascia, which is connective tissue. It holds things in place. It's also a network for our hydration, believe it or not. It's a network for our nutrients, but most importantly, it is a network for our emotions. Think about it. You're moving your body, sometimes you feel emotional about it.
You think about a song that really moves you and you're dancing and letting yourself intuitively move to a song, you might burst into tears or you might feel extreme joy or you might feel something else or it might remind you of something or someone. Us being able to tap into this fascia inside our body, it holds a lot, a lot of memories. A lot of emotions, a lot of things are stored in our fascia.
You've probably heard of fascial release. [00:05:00] You've probably heard of somatic therapy, and if you haven't, that's okay. You can, I can talk a little bit about it today, but you can look that stuff up. It is absolutely fascinating. Now, the tighter your connective tissue or your fascia is, the tighter it's going to hold on to things like your tendons, your ligaments, your muscles. Ever felt like things are way too tight? Ever felt an absolute horrendous pain in your tummy? It's probably because it's setting off alarm bells through this visceral layer, through this layer of your connective tissue.
Now, the thing about the connective tissue is it's also fairly highly innovated, meaning it can set off alarm bells in our immune system. It can set off alarm bells in pain receptors. It can set off alarm bells as far as the nervous system is concerned. So it makes sense that we give this fascia the chance to have some space. So that we can access these parts [00:06:00] of ourselves, our psyche, our bodies, and it actually helps us access more flexibility within our body in a physical sense, but also within our mind in an energetic sense as well.
So, to get back onto cellulite, when this connective tissue gets tight then the fat layer, we all have a fat layer, by the way, the stored fat in our body is called adipose tissue. Now this fat layer that sits just below our skin, if we have tightness happening inside this connective tissue, then the fatty layer can poke through. It might look like dips, or it might like a little bit of a valley, or it might look like a little bit of a mountain. And you can see where the lumpiness occurs on the legs, on the butt, sometimes the arms, the belly, anywhere where there's a little bit of extra amount of tissue where we tend to store any fat on our body.
Now you can see how simple it is that [00:07:00] it, that it starts. Now, I know you're probably thinking, Alright, cool, now how do I get rid of it? This isn't about just like, getting rid of it, in inverted commas. This is about you going, Okay, what has actually caused this to happen in the first place? Do I move my body? Because sometimes people have gone running, they've started a brand new exercise regime, and sometimes their cellulite just disappears because those fat cells shrink. So here's another thing that I love to let people know is, once you've grown a fat cell, you actually never get rid of it. You can, unless you have that fat freeze thing, but I don't, I don't really know that much about it. But anyway, once they've shrunk. It gives the indication to your body that you don't have that fat cell, but it can still sit there. So that's why people yo yo. You think of the people who lose like on the biggest loser, for example, this is like the quintessential thing. I don't know if anyone's looked up what actually happens in those shows, but they put them through absolute [00:08:00] hell.
They make them train about six hours a day on a 1200 calorie diet. And most of these people are well over a hundred kilos, right? It's simply not enough food and they're overtraining. So it's this like, it puts into society this overtraining, eat less, exercise more. And it's like, hang on a minute. This is not sustainable. I am so all about sustainability. And actually people having access to whole foods. Because it's actually harder to overeat whole foods. Fact. And when people are eating whole foods, they tend to be more satisfied. Their body actually gets what it needs. So there's no real need to overeat it.
And if you do find yourself overeating whole foods, then just put more protein on your plate and a bit less carb and that's usually what will help you feel more satisfied. Now, make sure as well, just while we're on the subject of whole foods, [00:09:00] because whole foods and what you eat become your cells, right? The cells in your body. That is what your body is made up of. So if you're eating healthy foods and you are putting more nutrition into your body, your cells will be healthier. So therefore, the potential of having more adipose tissue is going to be less, right? So there's that. But also if you're like, okay, well, I don't know how to get rid of the refined sugar. I don't know how to get rid of alcohol. I don't know how to get rid of these foods out of my diet. Show me what to do. I'm going to put the link to the Switch Guide down below. So check the show notes. You can grab that for free. I'm so happy to share that with you. So make sure you go and get that.
Now, with cellulite, what's really, really important to remember here is it's happening as part of a protective mechanism in your body. Something's getting tighter because something else is changing. Now, how do we treat this on a holistic level? Because it's not just about going on a diet or starting to exercise, even [00:10:00] though those things could be helpful for you.
And I'm not saying don't do those things. What I am saying is though, if we're talking about this visceral layer, this fascial layer. There's something else there and this is the something else like this is what I talk about in quantum health and quantum healing sessions that I run for people. I train practitioners and coaches in this.
I take people through this process of what else is there. There's so much more available to us than what our brain thinks, what we've been told and actually what we access through our five senses. There's actually so much more available, which is why people go to practitioners, right? Because the practitioner has become the master or the expert in their particular field.
So people come to them so then their healing is facilitated. That is the whole point of quantum. It's helping you access more. And so often I'm saying, okay, well, if something is happening in a particular part of your body, it's giving you a particular signal because the body keeps score. Now this is, this is [00:11:00] a famous term coined by the most amazing man in, in psychology. And his name is Gabor Mate. So look him up if you, if you haven't heard of him before, the things that he says is just so, so awesome. I really like his philosophy with life. But he talks about the body keeps score. And what this means is the unconscious mind, when it can't deal with an emotion, or if we're not equipped with the resources or the tools when we're young, and which is all of us by the way, so trauma is trauma is trauma, and what is trauma to one person might not be trauma to another, and absolutely it's, it's all fine. Whatever you feel is perfect for you.
Now the difference here is this, your body is telling you, your body is constantly sending you signals, chemical signals through neurotransmitters, body signals through symptomology, through symptoms, through pathology. So like, just [00:12:00] going and getting a blood test because you're not sure how you're feeling isn't going to be the only thing that you ever do. Just going to an orthopedic surgeon to find out that something's up with your knee doesn't actually fix the issue because the issue started well before you actually had a symptom. And I know this might sound out there for some people, but it is so awesome when you can tune in to what it is that your body is telling you.
Now the thing about cellulite is this, we're going into those more visceral layers, the connective tissue, we're releasing things. If we can release the tightness of what's happening there, magic starts to happen. Your nervous system starts to relax more. Now here's the thing, you don't need to know what the trauma is or what the stress is or what the emotion is, it's stored there.
I want you just to be okay with the fact that you can let go of something without knowing of what it is. Because sometime, at some stage, you decided to hold onto it, same thing can happen, you can decide to [00:13:00] let go of it. And this is a big part of Catalyst MindBody Release. I teach you how to release and let go.
And so you can actually just be your, your actual authentic self. This is the beauty of it. It's not just about releasing weight. It's not just about the way that you look. This is actually about you becoming who you truly are. And allowing yourself to access your emotional self without feeling overly vulnerable. Without feeling shame, guilt or any of those negative emotions towards it. It just is, you know? Because all of those emotions are normal human emotions. There's nothing to be ashamed of. Only to find wisdom from. I want you to be able to appreciate the fact that you have a body, that you are here right now. And now you have the information that you're able to access your own body, which is so fantastic.
Now here are some of the things that I recommend that you can do in order to increase blood flow. Now, number one, I use a contour cup and I will [00:14:00] put a discount code. I use Booty and Co contour cup. I don't necessarily recommend their creams because they've got, I would just say that they're not organic, they've got chemicals. So literally just use an edible, some sort of edible oil on your legs and then use the contour cup. And if you want to see, I have done a specific explainer video on my Instagram. So go to my Instagram @AmyMingin, and you'll be able to see what I do and how I do it. That shows you exactly how to use a contour cup and with the contour cup, it feels a little bit painful to begin with.
Like, I don't know if you've ever breastfed before, but it reminds me of that, like it's suctions on it's like, holy moly, and you circle it round in tiny circles on all of the potential affected areas. Now the beauty of these contour cups is you only need to use them a few times a week. They help to smooth out the skin but also smooth [00:15:00] out the connective tissue underneath. They help it to release and you actually feel this endorphin release after you're finished. And that's what I love about it. Yes it's a little bit painful to begin with while you're like actually like loosening up the tightness. But it's a bit like if you haven't had a massage for years and then you go and have one, you kind of need that first one to feel like you're being broken in again, you know what I mean? Like so that your muscles feel like they're pliable and they're they're more like, able to be massaged. It takes a little bit. So, same thing with the cup. Like, it takes a little bit. Make sure you apply plenty of oil onto your legs so that you've got lubricant there because I know a lot of people don't use enough and they, they tell me that they're bruised. I'm like, um, you're probably doing it a bit hard.
So that's number one. Contour cup. Use it on your legs, on your butt, on your tummy, wherever you have enough flesh because it's just getting blood flow and it's helping to release what's happening under the surface, i. e. [00:16:00] inside that visceral connective tissue. So anywhere where you can get enough flesh into it, perfect. Do that.
Next is foam rolling. Now, I was really skeptical about foam rolling when I first saw it. I was like, Oh, this isn't really a thing. Like why are these people doing this? It's all like a gym thing. But don't knock it till you try it. This also works a little bit like the contour cup, but it's probably just using a bigger surface area.
And it's also using your body weight. So sometimes it can be a lot more painful like that ITB. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh, like I had a sports therapist, like massage my ITBs one time and I'm just like, I nearly vomited. It was so painful. So yeah, you can really use the foam roller across your legs, across your butt.
You can lay on it. You can open up your heart. You can, you know, really roll out the spine and use the [00:17:00] foam roller in order to allow for more flexibility and mobility, but also to help roll out those connective tissue areas of the body.
And then another thing that people will use, and it's actually really easy to come by is dry skin brushing. Now with dry skin brushing, you don't need to put anything on before you do it. You can get dry skin brushes on the internet. Like literally you can buy it on Amazon or something. Otherwise just go down to like your local price line or something similar.
It depends on where you are in the world, but that's what we'll go to probably in Australia. And with the dry skin brush, you start at your feet and work your way up towards the heart and you cover your entire skin, not your face and make sure you don't touch your labia or your nipples. There are the two areas that I would say avoid, but anywhere where there's a lot of lymphatic tissue is really good idea.
So under your armpits, in the [00:18:00] groin and down the sternum, really, really good areas. And that's going to help with detoxification. It's going to help, again, it's going to stimulate the cells of the skin. It's going to help with blood flow, but also a lot of people will say that it smooths out their cellulite as well. So that's another thing that you could do. That's, I mean, you don't need to do all these as well, just so that you know, choose one and do that a few times a week. And you're going to notice a big difference.
Now, the big thing about this is you can do all of these things. But if you just do them alone and you don't change anything else about your life, then you're probably going to have really limited results. And so here's what else I recommend. I recommend if you haven't already download the Switch Guide, and if you haven't already heard of it, have a look into my Catalyst program. I will put the Catalyst link down below because Catalyst helps you reinstate positive behaviors in your life. [00:19:00] It's actual true behavior change.
People typically release eight kilos in eight weeks. It's a lot. And if the, if you don't need to release that much, your body won't release it. Like this is the beautiful thing about it. You will start to release things in your life that you no longer need. You'll make great decisions. You'll have so much more mental clarity.
And the women who come in, who have a business, their business really thrives. They get a lot more clarity around who they're serving and what they're doing. And they, instantly get more sales. Like it happens every single time. So it's really, really cool. I think that if you're spiritual, that this is your invitation to look after your physical body.
I've seen this, the ones who work with the 5d, the ones who are great with manifestation. And yet their physical body needs a little more TLC. And I've, I've been told this by a lot of you, that you're really sensitive, that you tend to hold a little bit extra, and you're well aware that you're holding a bit extra, but then there's like that fear factor, if you [00:20:00] didn't have the extra, what would protect you?
And this is the thing, you work through that. You work through that as part of the release in the program. So it's so fantastic to be able to look after your 3D self so you can access more in the 5D because there is always more available to us. That is the beauty of it. Now, the great thing about Catalyst is you'll learn about exercise, you'll learn about what foods are great for you, and it's all very medicinal. So it doesn't require any supplementation, it literally is you changing your habits around food, changing how you feel about food, changing your emotions, and noticing. There's a lot of self awareness in this. So, I've had people who said that they've had coaches for decades, and they've uncovered things in Catalyst that have been key that they haven't been able to access before.
Now this is huge. This is amazing. So I'm inviting you into it. Do your contour cup or your dry skin [00:21:00] brushing or your foam rolling. Yes, of course. And also come into Catalyst because it's probably going to be the best thing you'll ever do.
